We are excited to bring a new feature to our web site called Antiquities, offering unique items from around the world in very limited quantities. It's an opportunity to pass along some of my collections, beads, textiles, silver, fossils... a tangible way to share my fascinations. Objects in the Antiquities "room" will be of interest to collectors who love the rare and extraordinary. Once an item is sold out its gone, only the images will remain cataloged as our private "museum," I hope these items bring you joy.
Ottoman jewelry has a captivating history that dates back thousands of years, it shadows the ancient migration routes that interlaced through the Ottoman empire. Nomadic tribes moved along these routes between the seasons. Nomads or Gypsies, does not describe a particular group of people, but rather a state of being. The jewelry of these wanderers incorporates design elements from many cultures.
Authentic traditional hand forged tribal amulets circa 1960's made from blue faience (fired, crushed quartz crystal) beads with two holes set in a bezel of gypsy silver ( a copper base with tin overlay.) Said to afford protection to the wearer. Made in the same manner for centuries, these pieces are made one by one so no two are identical. Approximately 1" x 1" including the dangling bells. Trade with the US and other Western countries has made the original old pieces a scarcity. Imagine a pair of earrings, sew onto a choker or hang from a leather cord. Limited quantity.
