Ottoman Large Amulet

32.00

Ottoman jewelry has a captivating history that dates back thousands of years, it shadows the ancient migration routes that interlaced through the Ottoman empire. Nomadic tribes moved along these routes between the seasons. Nomads or Gypsies, does not describe a particular group of people, but rather a state of being. The jewelry of these wanderers incorporates design elements from many cultures.

Authentic traditional hand forged tribal amulet circa 1960's made from a blue faience (fired, crushed quartz crystal) bead with 6 holes set in a bezel of gypsy silver (a copper base with tin overlay.) A very unique and mysterious piece. Said to afford protection to the wearer. Made in the same manner for centuries, these pieces are made one by one so no two are identical.  4 5/8" L including bail, chainmalle and bells x 1 1/8"W. Trade with the US and other Western countries has made the original old pieces a scarcity. Hang from a leather cord as a pendant, dangle from a belt or purse or boots.  Only 1 exists.
