Tassels have a history dating back thousands of years as symbols of status, luxury and luck. Seen as universal adornment in many cultures and can be found throughout the globe. In the cradle of civilization, Mesopotamia, tassels were worn as amulets on headdresses to protect the wearer from evil spirits. Archeologists have unearthed tassels in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs. In Asia, they were made of silk and used to tie off weavers knots. Uzbeks were once  a most prolific tribe of merchants who traveled the old trade routes of the Middle Eastern region. The rich history of this fascinating peoples is reflected in their creative artistry. Tassels were incorporated to jewelry, clothing and even to adorn their camels. These exotic beaded tassels are made of "gillet" coin silver, cotton and glass beads. All handmade, each is unique, the patina on the silver is so subtle and beautiful. Dangle from a belt, sandals, hat, boots, incorporate into jewelry as earrings, make a key chain, add to mixed media or hang from your boots. While there are reproductions on the market, these are authentic vintage pieces filled with history. 5" tall x 1 1/8" wide. Turquoise, Red, Marigold Yellow and Sapphire Blue.
