There's magic in the water, the ocean calls to all your senses, the sight takes your breath away, the smell is clean, the sound is soothing, rhythmic, the touch is refreshing, the taste is salty. I grew up and still live on an island, surrounded by water that changes to different shades depending on depth, reefs or sand. The piece I bring you today is inspired by that, my precious Caribbean Sea.
I woke up one morning with this idea in my head, would I be able to float a pearl in the hearts niche? would I be able to attain the different shades of blue I needed to represent my waters? As I was peppered with questions and ideas I had a clear vision in my head of what this needed to be, hence my Guardians of the Pearl was born!
Here's a peek at the ocean inspiring me!
Does it incite your senses? I bet it does!
As I experimented there were few pictures, I modeled the horses out of air dry clay, and I had them dry over a heart so they would have the perfect curve to hug the sides of the niche.
My initial idea, included sea weed, that was before I received some metal coral charms from Nunn Design!
After I received the coral charms I needed to solder them, and pronto! I had an old hot iron and my only set of instructions was being in the presence of Debby Anderson. No way to ask questions...the old iron gave me the confidence to order a new one from Cat Kerr. As I attempted the soldering of charms that almost melted before my eyes I was determined to have my way, hugging the heart and flipping one upside down to dangle a coral bead!
After finishing this my advice to you is listen to that heart of yours, you'll be able to get the results you want. Don't be afraid to experiment , create magic, after all that is what happens when you let go!
