Ever since I was a young girl, I can remember getting ready for church with Grandma and how she just loved this brooch of the Blessed Mary. It was rich in blues and golds and just made me feel something. It made my Grandma look regal and rich in my opinion. It was one of her most prized pieces.
As we walked into the church and saw all of the relics, statues, the ornate costume, the robes, and the stained glass, I felt a part of something and I appreciated the beauty.
I wanted to create something that honored that special piece my Grandma wore because that beautiful brooch inspired me to love jewelry and relics and to appreciate the story they tell.
I used a laser print-out of one of my favorite versions of Mary and then I cut it using a die by Spellbinders to fit a bezel by Susan Lenart Kazmer. I created layers of resin by pouring the resin and letting each layer dry before adding the next.
When the first layer was dry, I used a stamp with the definition of Love, Cherish and Celebrate printed on it and Stayz On ink and stamped it over the image. I applied another layer of ice resin and allowed it to create a dome.
I used two crosses from the “Crosse Icons” set and painted them with a brown wash. The Kroma Crackle was added once the wash was dry. Finally, I covered the painted and crackled crosses with Ice Resin that was tinted with the Ancient Root tint. The resin not only gives the finished crosses a beautiful shine but it also protects the crackle effect from any wear and tear that may occur.
