"Old Soul" with RELICS & ARTIFACTS® Ambassador Monica Downing and CANVAS CORP BRANDS

July 10, 2017 David Evertson

Today, we have our first Ambassador project for our match up with Canvas Corps Brands!

Monica ushers in this collaboration in true Relics & Artifacts® style with this jaw dropper!  Let's hear the inspiration and story straight from her!

This piece was created for our Collaboration with Canvas Corp Brands.  When I received my package I knew what I wanted to do.  Creating this piece, I was imagining reading the story inside the pages of this old vintage book.

The story of a sailor turned pirate. A pirate who fell in love with a beautiful mermaid.  The mermaid followed his travels all across the ocean’s of the world. One adventure after another they fell deeper in love.

As he aged over the years, she remained young and beautiful and magical, as did their love.  The pirate and the mermaid spent the last of the pirate's days together, away from the rest of the world.

The pirate saved the mermaid’s tears in an old glass vial to be buried with him as a way to keep her forever love.

Monica has also put together a Snapguide tutorial so that you may recreate your own inspired story of love.

Don't forget that there's a giveaway at the end of this month!

"Kintsugi Inspiration" with RELICS & ARTIFACTS® Ambassador Chrissy Colon

May 29, 2017 David Evertson

Kintsugi is a Japanese method for repairing broken ceramics with a special lacquer mixed with gold or other precious metals.

The belief behind this ancient technique is to acknowledge and show off the history of the broken piece and to visibly accent and enhance the repair into the piece instead of disguising it. The process usually results in something more beautiful than the original.  The scars are representations of growth and should be considered beautiful rather than ugly.

Remember that shattered piece?  I applied a faux kintsugi technique to "repair" it.

The beauty of this philosophy is that non-Japanese crafters and artisans may not even realize it, but they practice this philosophy when they see a broken object’s potential.  Every time we upcycle or repurpose an object, we reincarnate and resurrect a whole new beautifully made over piece that would have otherwise been thrown away or forgotten!

This piece was broken intentionally and then put back together using a technique that emulates a long ancient art form.  If you are interested in learning how I accomplished this look, stay tuned because I plan on sharing it live with you in an upcoming "Live From the Tribe" feature!

"A Gentle Heart is Tied With an Easy String" with RELICS & ARTIFACTS® Ambassador Milagros Rivera

April 21, 2017 Guest User

Inspiration is a unique thing. I can never tell how it magically happens, but it certainly lets its presence be known.  It all started with a humble canvas stitched book and then it took on a life of its own.  This past Spring break, I spent a few days in the company of a dear friend.  She is a doll collector and her home is surrounded by the most beautiful faces.  Everywhere you look there's a dress, a hairdo, a smile that captures my fancy.  While driving back home, this little doll house dream began to take shape and I couldn't wait to get to my studio to create!

I started with the sweetest face from the Relics & Artifacts® Persona set. I loved the chubby cheeks and thought it would be the best accessory for my first page.  I tea stained and stamped to my heart's content.

I continued with the tea and stamping, hand stitched the lace and drew a doll.  I played like a little girl with old remnants of laces and ribbons I have been collecting for years.  Then with the leftover muslin bag from my tea bag I dressed the Relics & Artifacts®  doll .  I used Cat Kerr's stamp, "Brave Heart", to tell a story of bravery and survival of the little doll and her girl

I continued onto the next page continuing to use Cat's stamps. She embodies the title of my book, "The Gentle Heart", with her sweet face.  She carries a bouquet of Sandra's velveteen blooms that was hand stitched to her tiny hands

My last page on the book is devoted to this majestic angel to remind me of the courage to believe in myself and to always now that, "Yes, I can, and so can you!"  Be inspired and let your imagination take a hold of your heart!
