I have always considered myself to be a relatively simple crafter, a maker of eye catching things using the simplest of techniques and supplies. While I certainly have a great appreciation for pieces that involve a high level of skill and expertise, I've always admired the pieces where the impact is in the simplest of details.
These skulls are my tribute to relative simplicity and a whole truckload of patience. With simple tools like a needle, a good glue and micro seed beads, a piece can have a jaw dropping impact on a person.
Those of you who really know me know that I am high strung and always on the go. I always have my hands in some kind of something whether it's school, an art project, or one of the kid's activities. I am not the most "chill" person on the planet and tend to get stressed out over minor details.
It would also blow your mind if I told you that doing a project like this, for me, is relaxing. Yes! The tedious can be relaxing if you just sit, be in the moment, and enjoy the methodical nature of pieces like these.
Sitting at my table with my needle and glue, placing each micro bead one by one helps me to just focus on one thing at a time, one bead at a time. It forces me to just slow down. Once you get your rhythm, your zone, your happy place, the magic of relaxation sets in and before you know it, you have finished.
One of these magnificent skulls just had to be turned into a necklace and what a beauty it turned out to be! In order to preserve the beadwork, I sealed both pieces with ICE Resin® from Ranger. The resin layer also makes it shiny too!
I have a stash of cool beads, turquoise, stone skulls and so much more. What better way to show off the beaded skull than this?
I can't wait to show this piece off and I hope to make some more in the future. I think I'm really starting to dig this jewelry making thing!
I'm sure you are wondering what I plan on doing with the other skull, and quite frankly, so am I. I guess we both shall wait and see where inspiration and imagination will take us!
