The word Retablo comes from the Latin retro -tabula, meaning behind the altar. They come in two forms Santos and Ex Votos. They were placed around the altar as objects of veneration, over time, coming into homes.Read More

Two years ago, I visited the beautiful place Frida Kahlo called home. Casa Azul was such an inspiring place. Standing in front of her easels, her painting window, brushes and paints, seeing all her mixed media, jars full of glass glitter, I could envision her, brush in hand.
I don't think she ever imagined she would influence so many of us later in life and I can see even more generations being inspired by her as I watched my daughter, in awe of her work.
I wanted to depict her happy, bright colors and the luminescence of her home and gardens by painting over glass with alcohol inks.
Shine on Frida! We love being inspired by you!
“Si actuas como si supieras lo que estas haciendo, puedes hacer lo que quieras.”

"I am forever walking upon these shores,
Between the sand and the foam,
The high tide will erase my foot-prints,
And the wind will blow away the foam.
But the sea and the shore will remain
They say to me in their awakening, 'You and the world you live in are but a grain of sand upon the infinite shore of an infinite sea.'
And in my dream I say to them, 'I am the infinite sea, and all worlds are but grains of sand upon my shore.'"

2016 was a year of many adventures! One of them was the development of a stencil line based on my art journal entries with The Crafter's Workshop. At the recent Creativation show in Phoenix, they were finally revealed and of course I needed to see how well they paired with Relics & Artifacts®!
I thought Flora was the perfect pairing and after adding it in her hair, I decided to add some strands of Bohemian Jewels. They added the perfect flow to her hair! When you see her up close she glows with the foil! To be able to show part of her shine, I had to put her on an angle as foil tends to catch the light. I prepared for you a Snapguide tutorial so you can see the process of altering the Relics and the use of the brand new Transfer Gel by Deco Foil.
Since our challenge for you this month is #RA50ShadesofRed, I paired her with reds and pinks and I can't wait for you to see the paint I used on the Flora!
My Christmas is rooted in tradition. We celebrate the birth of baby Jesus on Christmas Day. Then on the 6th of January, we celebrate the Epiphany as Three Kings Day. Christmas celebrations in Puerto Rico last until February 2nd, the Candelaria day, in honor of Virgen del Carmen when the Christmas trees get burned to honor the Virgin. And if you're a kid, then you are in luck because the night of January 5th, you put a box with some grass for the camels to eat underneath your bed and the next morning there are presents inside that box! Yes, school will begin by the 8th or 9th of January to honor the length of our Christmas season.Read More
